The design is inspired by the insignia of officials’ uniform during the Joseon Dynasty (1392~1910) in Korea. Animals such as the crane, tiger, dragon, and phoenix were used to identify the wearer’s social status. Single or double cranes were used for civil servants depending on the rank and tigers were used for military officials. The insignia as a decorative badge was attached to the chest and back of robes and it shows highly refined craftsmanship and textile techniques.
